$1,000+ Value Golf Raffle: Support First Tee For Children

The Mission of The First Tee is:
"To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
"

On May 9th, 2019 the Three Lakes 18-Hole Ladies League is hosting the 48th Annual Golden Apple Golf Tournament. Every year the Three Lakes ladies select a charity to benefit from this fundraising event.  This years beneficiary is The First Tee Central Washington, a charity organization formed to help children develop life skills.

According to The First Tee website:
"For more than 22 years we have been using the platform of golf to provide innovative and experiential learning opportunities for young people. Character education and long-term life skills are at the heart of our programs, which are delivered by coaches who have been trained in positive youth development."

One of the main sources of fundraising for The Golden Apple Tournament is an annual raffle with a large bundle of FREE rounds of golf.  This years winner will receive certificates for 4 rounds of FREE golf, including carts at each of the following five courses:

Colockum Ridge Golf Course - Quincy, WA
Moses Lake Golf Club - Moses Lake, WA
Moses Pointe Golf Resort - Moses Lake, WA

A Book Recommendation: Where The Crawdads Sing

"The person who reads lives a thousand lives. The person who does not read, lives but one."

As golfers, we often take road trips to play out of town courses.  So today, I'd like to share my impressions of a book I "read" recently on a trip to Eagle Crest in Redmond, Oregon.

With high praise from a few friends, I was enticed to download the Audible version of Where The Crawdads Sing for my most recent road trip.  It's a relatively long book at 12 hours and 12 minutes for the audio version. This turned out to be the perfect length for the down and back of this particular trip.

The author, Delia Owens, wrote the book inspired by her own curiosity as a child in rural Georgia and her career as a wildlife scientist.  The combination of science and imagination has allowed Ms Owens to weave a remarkable story.

As a young child the main character, Kya Clark, known as "The Marsh Girl" by the townspeople of Barkley Cove is abandoned one-by-one by her entire family. Through no fault of her own, Kya was left alone to survive with no money, only a shack to live in, and a small boat. Her journey to adulthood in the marsh is a compelling and educational read. For a complete summary of the book, click here.

I highly recommend this book for your reading or listening please.

The 62nd Annual Spring Fling Invitational Tournament hosted by the Women's 18-Hole Division of the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club will be held on May 21, 2019.

This is one of my favorite events of the season and a great way to start off a new golf season.  The theme for this years event is "Rolling out the red carpet".

Join In On The Fun and Friendships

I have found so much enjoyment playing golf with my senior friends that I want everyone to have the same experience. The easiest way to find a group of like minded ladies who love to golf is to join a local ladies league. My experience has been they are all very friendly and welcoming to visitors and new members.

Nearly every course has one or two organized women’s leagues. There is almost always an 18-hole day league for women who are either retired or have a work schedule that allows them to take off during the week. Many courses also have an evening league for working women. Due to time constraints, these are 9-hole leagues rotating from front to back nines each week.

If you’re interested in joining in on the fun of a ladies league, call the pro shop of the golf course you are interested in joining. They can give you the name of the best person to contact to get info to be a guest or to join.

The fun doesn’t stop during the off-season either. Most of these leagues informally organize activities for the winter months. Weekly card games, other games and lunches are very common. My group of friends often travel together, as well.

If you don’t know how to golf yet, no problem. I do recommend taking a set of basic lessons from a teaching professional to get started. You need to learn some basic skills and etiquette and then you can just go out and have fun.

It’s all about the fun and friendships.

Friendships and Golfing

I’ve always enjoyed golf but I never knew just how much fun golf (and life) could be by hooking up with a bunch of Senior Women Golfers.  I’ve never had so much fun and laughed so much as when I’m with my golfing friends.

Traveling together and playing different course has been a joy. Through golf we have developed a bond beyond golf.  It’s more of a sisterhood. I hope we can introduce you to some new possibilities to enjoy your game even more.

Let’s go on this journey together.

My Golfing Journey… and how it can help you.

Golf has pretty much saved my life. After being widowed I, literally, had to reinvent myself and I did it at the golf course. By connecting with an amazing bunch of senior women golfers, my life has become fun and fulfilling again. We golf together during the season, have lunch together during the off season, go to wine tastings, concerts, and even go on cruises together when the opportunity arises.

I hope by sharing my journey and adventures, it will give you some ideas for creating some new adventures and amazing memories of your own.

What could be better than creating a lifestyle centered around good friends, golf and a life filled with fun and laughter?

Golden Apple Tournament: Three Lakes Ladies Club, May 9, 2019

Three Lakes Public Golf Course near Wenatchee Washington

The 48th annual Golden Apple Golf Tournament is hosted by the Three Lakes Ladies 18-hole league. It is the first major ladies tournament of the year in the Wenatchee Valley, attracting approximately 100 women golfers for two days of fun and food.

Kids learning to putt

The Golden Apple is the ladies league major fundraiser for the year.  This year The First Tee will be the recipient of proceeds from the event.

As most of you probably know:
"The First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to kids and teens. Through after-school and in-school programs, they help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect, and perseverance through the game of golf. And it’s making a difference."

I did a previous blog post on playing this Three Lakes Golf course.

This years event will be held on May 9th, with a practice round available for May 8th.  There will be lots of prizes and fun raffle items.  For more information contact Paula Weedman through the Golf Course pro shop.  509-663-5448.
