A Book Recommendation: Where The Crawdads Sing
"The person who reads lives a thousand lives. The person who does not read, lives but one."
As golfers, we often take road trips to play out of town courses. So today, I'd like to share my impressions of a book I "read" recently on a trip to Eagle Crest in Redmond, Oregon.
With high praise from a few friends, I was enticed to download the Audible version of Where The Crawdads Sing for my most recent road trip. It's a relatively long book at 12 hours and 12 minutes for the audio version. This turned out to be the perfect length for the down and back of this particular trip.
The author, Delia Owens, wrote the book inspired by her own curiosity as a child in rural Georgia and her career as a wildlife scientist. The combination of science and imagination has allowed Ms Owens to weave a remarkable story.
As a young child the main character, Kya Clark, known as "The Marsh Girl" by the townspeople of Barkley Cove is abandoned one-by-one by her entire family. Through no fault of her own, Kya was left alone to survive with no money, only a shack to live in, and a small boat. Her journey to adulthood in the marsh is a compelling and educational read. I highly recommend this book for your reading or listening please.
